hat fashion for girlls 2015

was common because it was comfortable and in those days it wasn't accepted for the women to work or do any activities out of the house; they stayed home and made great house wives, so they didn't need anything elegant or classy in the comfort of their own homes.

By the time the  came along though, it became more acceptable for women to get out of the house to involve themselves in activities such as biking, tennis and many other sports. Therefore, the bonnet was not the ideal hat to go outside with. That's when the Cloche became very popular. The Cloche is a hat in the shape of a bell (round on the top, goes in by the head and slightly goes out by the brim). This made a very practical hat not only for activities but for a more dressy and put together look.
women preferred something fancier and more elegant looking such as a lavish hat with a wide brim designed with either tulle or ribbon.

Another thing that was in at this time was the Silhouette, a lavish hat with a wide brim design with real human hair that the women used to collect either from their own hair or others.
By 1902, the Pompadours were very in. It was a plain hat with a wide brim used as a base for women to build their hair up on to form what we call today a "poof" or a "bump". So it gave the impression like all the hair was just sitting perfectly on its own but really it was backed up by a large sturdy brim. From , these hats were still in except that they were made smaller and hat narrower trimmings to give it that more natural look.

In the years 1907-1908 a new type of Silhouette hat came in. It was called the Merry Widow Hat. This was a black hat with a wide brim designed with beautiful chiffon and organza and full of feathers. At this time, another very popular hat was the Toque, a hat worn by women when playing sports.
Wide hats decorated with flowers, fruit and berries were also very fashionable at this time because it made one look like they were rich and wealthy with an abundance of these things on the crown of their hat.

By the time the 1930's came around, high crowned hats that sat on an angle on the head were very in style. Another type of hat or head covering worn at this time was the Snood - basically a cloth bag to hold, hide and cover ones hair. It is simple, neat, and works well with any length hair. Snoods then were either crocheted or knitted and were easy to make at home.

During WWII, hats were very popular and were worn by most women to dress up their outfits. No specific hats were really "in style", it was to each their own!
One of the head covers that many people wore at this time was the Beret - A soft, round brimless cap with a flat crown. Often made of wool or cotton which makes them extremely soft and pleasant to wear- they came in many different styles and designs. These were worn with more casual dresses and suits.

Another hat that was very popular at this time was the Turban. Since ladies started working in factories at this time- the turban made a perfect hat or head covering because it kept the hair away from the face and covered it securely so it wouldn't get caught in the machines. Fancy and dressy turbans were made out of fancier materials (such as velvet) and had extra designs such as bows or feathers on the top
After the war, hats started going out of style and woman didn't find the need to wear hats on a regular basis. In order to preserve the market, the industries made a variety of very fancy hats and made it a "necessity" to wear a hat with any outfit. Hats that sat flat on the head came into style at this time. They were made dressy and extremely comfortable to wear. By the late 1950's the Turban came back into style.
However, in the  hats went out of style because women preferred getting their hair done at the salon or hair dresser at this time.
